Hong Kong International Film Festival: Keanu Reeves Master Class

Keanu Reeves discussed his new documentary “Side By Side” with local film director Yonfan at the Jockey Club Cine Academy Master Class on Sunday 18 March, 2012. During the wide-ranging discussion and taking questions from the audience, the internationally acclaimed Reeves discussed the future of cinema, the digital revolution and his experiences in interviewing some of the major filmmakers of our era: Martin Scorsese, George Lucas, David Fincher and James Cameron.

Being a film buff myself, but always struggling with the technical aspect of the film-making process, I found this documentary very informative and easy to follow. It presented the two sides of film making – whether the newer digital process, or being faithful to the 100-year-old 35 mm film process, it showed the pros and cons of both formats, allowing viewers to make their own conclusions.

The Master Class is one of the major activities organised by the Academy, which was established in 2010 as a three-year film education programme run by the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS) with a donation from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.
